Drawing in the library
I spent the day in Cheltenham library. My studio’s cold and my enthusiasm for enduring another winter freezing 5 days a week is wearing a little thin novelty-wise. So I decamped to a nice warm desk with a good light and a commanding view of the Science Fiction and Foreign Language section to spend the day working away-from-home. I stopped by the local poundland and picked up a watercolour sketchbook. I’ll do a little video of that when it’s filled as the texture of the paper created some lovely effects when different types of pen dragged themselves over it. Knackered sharpies seemed to work pretty effectively, giving a kind of charcoalesque/diffused appearance.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying working through BRIGHT colour styles. Particularly Picasso style stuff from his later years. I’ve also been looking at minimal palettes with the paper colour as a colour choice. Single line artwork; defining an entire image with one line only. Repeating patterns. And my old, family-favourite, lots and lots and lots of spots. Here’s a selection. These are all done in Posca pens. My mate Satya’s run off with the cat picture already.
